# 🎠 How to Set Up an Auto-Sliding Upsell & Cross Sell

Want your upsell offers to catch more attention without customers lifting a finger? ✨

That's exactly what the **Auto-Sliding Upsell** in Hoppy Upsell & Cross Sell is designed for.

Instead of showing a single static product, the upsell widget can automatically rotate through your recommended products in a smooth sliding carousel — like a mini product showcase running right inside your store 🛍️

With this setup, you can:

* 🔄 Automatically rotate multiple upsell products in the widget  
* ⏱️ Control how many seconds each product stays visible  
* 👆 Let customers manually browse using the Left/Right navigation arrows  
* 🎯 Keep the widget compact while still showing more offers

This is especially useful when you have several products to recommend but limited space on the page — every product gets its moment in the spotlight 💡

# **🧩 How the Auto-Slide Works**

The upsell widget displays products inside a slider that shows **one product at a time**.

When Auto-Slide is enabled:

* The widget automatically moves to the next product after your chosen interval  
* The slider loops continuously, so it cycles back to the first product after the last one  
* Customers can always browse manually using the **Left/Right navigation arrows**

⚠️ **Important:** Auto-Slide is **automatically disabled for a visitor the moment they interact with the slider** — for example, by clicking the navigation arrows, tapping, or dragging the slider on mobile. This gives customers full control once they start browsing themselves.

# **✅ Before You Begin**

Make sure the app embed is enabled in your theme, otherwise the upsell widget won't appear on your storefront.

Go to:

**Shopify Admin → Sales Channels → Online Store → Themes → Edit theme → App Embeds**

Then:

* Find **Upsell Cross-Sell Slider**  
* Toggle it **ON**  
* Click **Save**

💡 If you're using the **Custom Position** placement, you'll also need to add the **Upsell Cross-Sell Block** app block inside your theme editor and enter your Upsell ID. See 🔎 How to Find Upsell ID? if needed.

# **⚙️ Step 1 — Create or Open an Upsell**

Open the **Hoppy Upsell & Cross Sell** app from your Shopify Admin.

Then either:

→ Click **Create new upsell** to start a fresh setup and pick a placement (**Product Page**, **Cart Page**, **Cart Drawer**, or **Custom Position**)

—or—

→ Open an existing upsell from your dashboard to edit it

The Auto-Slide setting works the same way across **all placement types**, so you can use it wherever your widget appears 🙌

# **🛍️ Step 2 — Choose Your Upsell Products**

Inside the **Content** tab, first decide which products the slider should rotate through.

Under **Select upsell products**, choose one of the available options:

* **AI Upsell (Frequently Bought Together)** → automatically pulls Related or Complementary products set in Shopify's Search & Discovery app  
* **Upsell Specific Products** → hand-pick the exact products you want to promote  
* **Upsell Specific Collections** → rotate products from selected collections  
* **Upsell Same Product (As on Product Page)** → promote the product currently being viewed

💡 Auto-Slide shines brightest when the widget has **multiple products to show** — with only one product, there's nothing to slide to.

### **🔢 Max No. of Products**

When using **AI Upsell** or **Upsell Specific Collections**, you'll also see a **Max No. of Products** field.

This controls how many products (up to 10\) are loaded into the slider for rotation.

For example, setting it to `5` means up to 5 recommended products will take turns inside the widget.

# **🎠 Step 3 — Enable Auto Slide**

Still inside the **Content** tab, scroll to the **Auto Slide Upsell by Interval** setting.

This dropdown has 2 options:

* **Enabled** → the widget automatically slides through your upsell products  
* **Disabled** → the widget stays on one product until the customer uses the navigation arrows

The setting is **Enabled by default** for new upsells.

# **⏱️ Step 4 — Set the Interval Duration**

Once **Auto Slide** is set to **Enabled**, a new field appears right below it:

**Interval Duration** 🕒

This number controls **how many seconds each product stays on screen** before the slider moves to the next one.

* Default value: `5` seconds  
* Lower values (e.g. `3`) → faster rotation, more energy ⚡  
* Higher values (e.g. `8`–`10`) → slower rotation, more time to read each offer 🧘

💡 A good starting point is **4–6 seconds** — fast enough to showcase multiple products, but slow enough for customers to read the product title, price, and button.

ℹ️ The **Interval Duration** field only appears while Auto Slide is set to **Enabled**. If you disable Auto Slide, the field hides itself automatically.

# **💾 Step 5 — Save & Publish**

Once everything looks good:

1. Click **Save** in the save bar at the top of the page  
2. Click **Publish** to make the upsell live on your store

After publishing, a confirmation banner will appear with quick links to **open your store** or **enable the app embed** if it isn't active yet.

# **⚠️ Important Notes**

* 🛑 Auto-Slide **stops for the current page view** as soon as a visitor interacts with the slider (arrows, tap, drag, or click). It restarts automatically the next time the page loads — for example, when the visitor navigates to another page.  
* 👁️ The preview inside the app shows how your widget looks, but the sliding motion itself is best verified on your **live storefront**.  
* 🔁 The slider **loops continuously** — after the last product, it slides back to the first one automatically.  
* 🧭 The **navigation arrows always stay available**, even when Auto-Slide is enabled, so customers never lose manual control.  
* 📱 Auto-Slide works on both **desktop and mobile** storefronts.
