🧩 Available Bundle Types – Explained

Not sure which offer type to pick? You're in the right place 😊

Hoppy Bundles comes with 9 different offer types, each built for a different selling strategy β€” from simple volume discounts to build-your-own bundles and smart product recommendations.

This guide gives you a quick, friendly tour of each one:

  • βœ… What it does
  • πŸ‘€ How it looks on your storefront
  • 🎯 When you'd want to use it
  • ⚠️ Key limitations to know about

We won't go deep into settings here β€” every offer type has its own dedicated setup guide (linked in each section). Think of this page as the map πŸ—ΊοΈ before you start the journey.

πŸ“ Where Do I Find the Offer Types?

All offer types live behind one button:

β†’ Open the Hoppy Bundles app from your Shopify Admin β†’ Click Create new offer (top right)

This opens the Select Offer Type page β€” a grid of cards, one per offer type. Each card shows:

  • The offer name (e.g. Quantity Break)
  • A live mini-preview of how the widget looks on your storefront
  • A tag describing the category (e.g. Volume Discounts)
  • A short description of what it does
  • A Create button to start that offer type

ℹ️ Some cards open the same setup screen with different starting points β€” for example, BOGO and Buy X Get Y both open the Quantity Break setup, just pre-filled with deal-style tiers. More on that below πŸ‘‡

πŸ“Š Group 1 β€” Volume Discounts

These offers reward customers for buying more β€” the bigger the purchase, the better the deal. A real Shopify automatic discount is created, so the savings apply at checkout with no discount codes needed.

1️⃣ Quantity Break (One product)

  • Tag: Volume Discounts
  • What it does: Creates tiered quantity discounts on a single product β€” e.g. Buy 1 β†’ Standard Price, Buy 2 β†’ 10% OFF, Buy 3 β†’ 20% OFF.
  • Storefront look: A neat, clickable tier widget on the product page (default: right below the Add to Cart button). Customers tap the tier they want and add to cart β€” the discount applies automatically at checkout ✨
  • Pick this when: You want to push higher quantities of the same product β€” great for consumables, wholesale-style pricing, or "stock up and save" deals.

πŸ’‘ This is the most popular offer type and the foundation of the app β€” BOGO and Buy X Get Y are built on top of it.

2️⃣ Category Quantity Break (Different products)

  • Tag: Volume Discounts
  • What it does: Same tiered-discount idea, but each "pack" mixes different products β€” the product the customer is viewing plus extra products they choose from a list you curate.
  • Storefront look: Radio-selectable pack tiers on the product page (e.g. 1 Pack β†’ Standard, 2 Pack β†’ 10% OFF, 3 Pack β†’ 20% OFF). The customer picks a pack, selects the extra products for it, and checks out with the discount applied automatically ✨
  • Pick this when: You want volume discounts across a whole category β€” e.g. "mix any 3 t-shirts and save 20%" β€” rather than multiples of one product.

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Category Quantity Break?

🎁 Group 2 β€” Combo & Build-Your-Own

These offers sell multiple products together as one deal.

3️⃣ Bundle (Combo Product)

  • Tag: Combo Product
  • What it does: Groups up to 3 different products into a fixed combo β€” like T-Shirt + Trousers + Muffler β€” with a discount (or even a free gift 🎁) when the customer buys the whole set.
  • Storefront look: A bundle widget on the product page showing the combo items. One click of the button adds all products to the cart together, with the discount applied automatically ✨
  • Pick this when: You have a fixed set of products that naturally go together and want to sell them as one click-to-buy combo.
  • ⚠️ Limitation: A Bundle needs at least 2 and supports up to 3 products per combo. Need more flexibility or more items? Look at BYOB instead.

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Bundle (Combo Product)?

4️⃣ BYOB (Build Your Own Bundle)

  • Tag: Build Your Own
  • What it does: Lets customers build their own bundle from the products/collections you allow, following rules you define (e.g. "pick at least 3 items"), and unlocks a discount once their bundle qualifies.
  • Storefront look: BYOB gets its own product page on your storefront with a live bundle builder β€” customers add items, watch the bundle summary update (selections, total, discount, final price), and add the whole bundle to cart in one click ✨
  • Behind the scenes: When you save a BYOB offer, Hoppy Bundles automatically creates a Shopify product for the bundle page and a Shopify automatic discount for the qualifying rules.
  • Pick this when: You sell things like gift boxes, sample packs, meal kits, or "build a set" experiences where the customer chooses what goes inside.

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Build Your Own Bundle (BYOB)?

πŸš€ Group 3 β€” Upsell & Recommendations

These offers recommend extra products to grow the cart. Important difference: they do not create discounts β€” products are added at their regular price.

5️⃣ Product Upsell (Slider)

  • Tag: Upsell
  • What it does: Shows a "You might also like" product slider on your product pages. Recommendations can be:

    • 🧠 AI-powered β€” Related or Complementary products (via the free Shopify Search & Discovery app)
    • 🎯 Hand-picked β€” exactly the products you choose
  • Storefront look: A swipeable slider of product cards, each with its own Add to Cart button β€” customers add extras without ever leaving the product page ✨
  • Pick this when: You want to raise Average Order Value by cross-selling relevant extras at the moment of highest intent.
  • ⚠️ No discount: The upsell slider creates no discount β€” it's purely a recommendation tool πŸ’‘

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Product Upsell?

6️⃣ Product Addons (With Checkboxes)

  • Tag: Product Addons
  • What it does: Adds a list of optional products with checkboxes to the product page. Customers tick what they want, and everything goes into the cart together in one click.
  • Storefront look: A checkbox list of addons (with images and prices) under the main product, plus a combined Add Bundle To Cart button ✨
  • Pick this when: You offer extras tied to the main product β€” 🎁 gift wrapping, πŸ›‘οΈ warranties/protection plans, 🧒 matching accessories, 🧴 refills or travel-size versions.

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Product Addons?

7️⃣ Frequently Bought Together (Product Recommendations)

  • Tag: Product Recommendations
  • What it does: A smart recommendation slider showing products that naturally go with the one being viewed β€” powered by AI recommendations (Related or Complementary products from the Shopify Search & Discovery app) or your own hand-picked products.
  • Storefront look: A "Frequently bought together" slider of product cards with individual Add to Cart buttons, right on the product page ✨
  • Pick this when: You want Amazon-style "customers also bought" suggestions, driven by Shopify's recommendation data rather than manual curation.
  • ⚠️ No discount: Like the upsell slider, FBT creates no discount β€” recommendations are added at regular price πŸ’‘

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Frequently Bought Together?

πŸŽ‰ Group 4 β€” Deals (BOGO & Conditional)

Classic promotional deals. Both are built on the Quantity Break flow β€” the same setup screen, just pre-filled with deal-style tiers and the YAY! It's BOGO template, so you're never starting from a blank page.

8️⃣ BOGO (Buy One Get One)

  • Tag: BOGO Deal
  • What it does: Runs "buy X, get more free" deals on a product β€” e.g. Buy 1 β†’ Standard Price, Buy 2 β†’ Get 1 Free, Buy 3 β†’ Get 1 Free.
  • Storefront look: A clickable deal-tier widget on the product page. The customer picks the deal, and the free item is added and discounted automatically at checkout β€” no discount codes, and customers don't need to add the free item themselves ✨
  • Pick this when: You want the classic, instantly-understood "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" style promotion β€” great for clearing stock or launch promos.

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Buy One Get One (BOGO)?

9️⃣ Buy X Get Y (Conditional Offer)

  • Tag: Conditional Deal
  • What it does: Rewards customers with a different product when they buy enough of something β€” e.g. Buy 2 T-Shirts β†’ Get a Cap at 50% OFF, or Buy 3 β†’ Get Socks FREE.
  • Storefront look: Clickable deal tiers on the product page, just like BOGO. The discount on the "Y" product applies automatically at checkout ✨
  • Pick this when: You want to push a specific product (or introduce a new one) by tying it as a discounted/free gift to purchases of another product.

β†’ Setup details: see the dedicated guide How to setup Buy X Get Y?

πŸ€” Which One Should I Choose?

Here's a quick decision helper based on what you're trying to do:

  • πŸ’Έ "Buy more of the same product, save more" β†’ Quantity Break
    • Example: A coffee brand offers 10% off 2 bags, 20% off 3 bags.
  • 🧺 "Mix & match across a category with tiered savings" β†’ Category Quantity Break
    • Example: Any 2 candles for 10% off, any 3 for 20% off.
  • 🎁 "Sell a fixed set as one combo" β†’ Bundle (Combo Product)
    • Example: A skincare starter kit β€” cleanser + toner + moisturizer at 15% off.
  • 🧩 "Let customers build their own box" β†’ BYOB
    • Example: Pick any 5 snacks for your gift box and save 10%.
  • βž• "Add small extras to the main product" β†’ Product Addons
    • Example: Gift wrap + extended warranty checkboxes on a gadget page.
  • πŸ›οΈ "Suggest related products, no discount" β†’ Product Upsell or Frequently Bought Together
    • Example: "You might also like" slider under a dress, showing matching shoes and bags.
  • πŸŽ‰ "Buy one, get one free" β†’ BOGO
    • Example: Buy 2 t-shirts, get 1 free during a weekend sale.
  • 🏷️ "Buy enough of X, get Y discounted" β†’ Buy X Get Y
    • Example: Buy 2 coffee bags, get a branded mug at 50% off.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • App embed required: For any widget to appear on your storefront, the Hoppy Bundles app embed must be enabled in your theme (Shopify Admin β†’ Online Store β†’ Themes β†’ Customize β†’ App Embeds). Without it, published offers stay invisible β€” even if everything in the app is configured correctly.
  • Discounts vs. recommendations: Volume discounts, bundles, BYOB, BOGO and Buy X Get Y all apply real automatic discounts at checkout (no codes needed). Product Upsell and Frequently Bought Together are recommendation tools only β€” they create no discount.
  • Shared setup screens:BOGO and Buy X Get Y open the Quantity Break setup pre-filled with deal tiers; Frequently Bought Together opens the Upsell Slider setup. Don't be surprised when the editor looks familiar 😊
  • Bundle size limit: The Bundle (Combo Product) type supports 2–3 products per combo. For bigger or customer-built sets, use BYOB.
  • AI recommendations: The AI mode in Product Upsell and Frequently Bought Together relies on the free Shopify Search & Discovery app to store Related/Complementary product data.
  • One guide per type: Every offer type has a dedicated step-by-step setup guide in this help center β€” start there once you've picked your type.
