đ¯ Countdowns â Advanced Targeting Options
Advanced Targeting gives you precise control over who sees your countdown timer, where it appears, and when it shows up. Instead of displaying the same timer to every visitor across your entire store, you can tailor visibility based on customer behavior, location, traffic source, login status, and more.
This helps you create more relevant urgency â showing the right countdown to the right audience at the right time đ
â ī¸ Before You Begin
To configure Advanced Targeting options:
â Open an existing countdown timer setup
â Or create a new countdown timer first
Then navigate to the Placement tab inside the countdown editor.

âąī¸ Time-on-Site Targeting
This setting controls when the countdown first becomes visible after a visitor lands on a page.
Always Show (Default)
The countdown appears immediately as soon as the page loads.
Show after a while
The countdown remains hidden for a specified number of seconds, then appears automatically.
- Delay (in seconds) â Enter a value between 1 and 300 seconds.
đĄ This is useful when you want visitors to browse briefly before seeing urgency messaging, avoiding an immediate distraction.
đ¤ Customer Targeting
This section lets you control countdown visibility based on who the visitor is. You can show or hide the countdown using two independent rule sets: Show bar to and Hide bar from.
â ī¸ Important: Hide rules override show rules. If a customer matches both a show rule and a hide rule, the countdown will be hidden.
Visibility by Login Status
- Show to all customers â The countdown is visible to both logged-in and guest visitors.
- Show only to logged-in customers â The countdown only appears for visitors who are signed into their account.
Show Bar To
This determines which customers are allowed to see the countdown.
All Customers
Every visitor can see the countdown, assuming they are not excluded by a hide rule.
Target customers based on customer tag
Only customers with specific Shopify customer tags will see the countdown.
- Enter multiple tags separated by commas (for example:
elite, plus, vip). - A customer only needs to match one of the listed tags to see the countdown.
Target customers based on lifetime spent
Only customers whose total lifetime order value meets or exceeds a specific amount will see the countdown.
- Enter the minimum lifetime spent amount in the input field.
- The amount uses your store's currency.
Hide Bar From
This determines which customers are explicitly prevented from seeing the countdown, even if they match a show rule.
No one â use the settings from above
No additional hide restrictions are applied.
Target customers based on customer tag
Customers with specific Shopify customer tags will not see the countdown.
- Enter multiple tags separated by commas (for example:
wholesale, internal). - A customer only needs to match one of the listed tags to be hidden from.
Target customers based on lifetime spent
Customers whose total lifetime order value meets or exceeds a specific amount will not see the countdown.
- Enter the minimum lifetime spent amount in the input field.
- The amount uses your store's currency.
đ Geolocation Targeting
This setting controls which countries or regions can see your countdown timer.
All World
The countdown is visible to visitors from any country.
Specific Countries
The countdown only appears for visitors from the countries you select.
- Click Select Countries to open the country picker modal.
- Search for countries by name or browse the full list.
- Check individual countries or use Select All to choose every country at once.
- Click Select to confirm your choices.
âšī¸ The country list uses ISO country codes alongside country names for easy identification.
đ Allowed UTM Sources
This setting lets you restrict countdown visibility to visitors arriving from specific marketing channels or UTM-tagged campaigns.
Enable UTM Source Filtering
Toggle ONLY Show to visitors who match UTM Source to enable this feature.
â ī¸ Important: When enabled, visitors who come to your store directly (without a UTM source in the URL) will not see the countdown.
Available UTM Sources
Once enabled, you can select one or more sources:
- Tiktok
- Custom UTM_CODE
Custom UTM Code
If you select Custom UTM_CODE, an additional text field appears where you can enter your own UTM parameters.
- Enter values like
utm_medium=sales,utm_campaign=newsletter - Separate multiple codes with commas
- Matching is case-insensitive
đĄ This is useful for merchants running private campaigns, affiliate promotions, or segmented email flows with custom UTM tracking.
𧊠Custom Position & Manual Placement
For all countdown types, the Custom position option gives you full control over exactly where the countdown appears in your theme.
Countdown ID
Every saved countdown has a unique Countdown ID. You can copy this ID and use it inside the Shopify Theme Editor to add the countdown as an app block.
Timer Code Snippet
You can also copy a ready-made HTML snippet:
\<div class="futureblink-countdownbar-block" id={your-countdown-id}\>\</div\>
Paste this snippet directly into your theme's Liquid files, page templates, or sections for complete placement flexibility.
âšī¸ If the countdown has not been saved yet, the Countdown ID and snippet will not be visible. Save the countdown first to generate them.
đ Important Notes
- Checkout page countdowns only support custom block placement. Customer targeting, geolocation, and UTM filtering are not available for checkout countdowns.
- Hide rules always take priority over show rules. If a customer matches both, they will not see the countdown.
- For tag-based targeting, matching uses OR logic â a customer only needs one matching tag, not all of them.
- Time-on-site delays are capped at 300 seconds (5 minutes).
đ¯ Final Result
Once configured successfully, Advanced Targeting helps you:
â Show countdowns only on the pages that matter most
â Target high-value customers while hiding timers from wholesale or internal accounts
â Display timers only in specific countries or regions
â Filter visibility by traffic source for campaign-specific urgency
â Control timing so countdowns appear at the most impactful moment
â Reduce banner fatigue by limiting who sees each countdown
Using Advanced Targeting effectively means your countdowns feel more personal, relevant, and intentional â which leads to a better customer experience and stronger urgency signals â¨
