๐ซ How to Create Unique QR Bookings with Appointment Bookings App
Want a faster, paperless way to check customers in at the door? With QR code tickets, every booking gets its own unique scannable code โ perfect for in-person classes, events, workshops, or any service where you meet customers on-site.
When QR tickets are enabled, the confirmation email includes a scannable code that links to the booking details. Your team can scan it with any phone camera or QR reader to instantly confirm who's booked in โ
Each QR code is unique to that booking, so it can't be reused or shared between customers.
โ ๏ธ Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- โ The Hoppy Appointments app installed
- โ At least one service created
- โ The service set to an In person or At Location meeting location
- โ Customer email notifications enabled
โน๏ธ QR tickets are only available for in-person or at-location services. They aren't available for video calls, phone calls, or custom locations.
๐ ๏ธ Step 1 โ Open Your Service
- In your Shopify admin, open the Hoppy Appointments app.
- Go to Services and click the service you want to edit.
- Open the General tab.
๐ Step 2 โ Choose In Person or At Location
- Scroll down to the Meeting location card.
- Select In person or At Location from the dropdown.
- Enter the address where the appointment will take place.
๐ก Not sure how to set up the meeting location? See How to Configure Meeting Locations for Appointment Bookings? for a full walkthrough.
๐ซ Step 3 โ Enable Send Ticket QR Code
Once In person or At Location is selected, a new option appears:
- Check the box labeled Send Ticket QR Code.
- The app will now generate a unique QR code for every new booking made for this service.
โน๏ธ The QR code is created at the time of booking and stays tied to that booking. Rescheduling or updating the booking keeps the same code.
๐ง Step 4 โ Add the QR Code to Your Email Template
The QR code only appears in emails if your confirmation template includes the right variable.
- Go to Settings โ Email Settings.
- Open the Customer booking confirmation template (or the relevant confirmation email).
- Click where you want the QR image to appear.
- Add the variable:
[Ticket QR Code] - You'll see the QR code block appear in the live preview.
๐ก You can place the QR code anywhere in the email body. Most merchants add it near the booking summary or location details so it's easy to find at check-in.
๐พ Step 5 โ Save Everything
- Save your service changes.
- Save your email template changes.
- Wait for the confirmation messages to appear โ
๐งช Step 6 โ Test the QR Booking
- Make a test booking for the service on your storefront (or create a manual booking in the admin).
- Check the confirmation email โ it should include the QR code ticket.
- Scan the QR code with any phone camera or QR reader.
- It will open a verification page showing the booking details and status.
โ ๏ธ The verification page is read-only. It shows whether the booking is confirmed, cancelled, or rescheduled, but it does not change the booking status. Mark customers as checked in or update the status directly from your Bookings dashboard if needed.
๐ What the Verification Page Shows
When the QR code is scanned, the verification page displays:
- Booking status (e.g., Confirmed, Cancelled, Rescheduled)
- Customer name and contact details
- Service name
- Date and time of the appointment
- Meeting location / address
This gives your on-site staff everything they need to verify the booking quickly.
โ ๏ธ Good to Know
- Unique per booking โ every QR code is tied to a specific booking ID, so two customers can't use the same code.
- Email only โ QR tickets appear in confirmation, reschedule, and update emails. They do not appear on the storefront success page, in the admin dashboard, or in calendar invites.
- Requires both toggles โ the service must have Send Ticket QR Code enabled and the email template must include
[Ticket QR Code]. - Read-only scan result โ scanning only verifies details. Use the Bookings dashboard to update status or check customers in.
- Works for all booking types โ regular, multiday, and bundle bookings can all include a QR ticket if the service supports it.
๐ Final Result
That's it! Your service now sends unique QR code tickets for every booking:
- โ QR tickets enabled on your in-person or at-location service
- โ Confirmation emails include a scannable QR code
- โ Each booking gets a unique code tied to its booking ID
- โ On-site staff can scan and verify bookings instantly
From now on, customers can simply show their QR code at the door โ no printed lists or manual lookup needed ๐
