📧 How to Setup an Announcement Email Collection Bar

Want to grow your email list directly from your storefront? 🚀

The Email Collection Bar in Hoppy Announcement Banner makes it easy to capture visitor emails and turn casual browsers into subscribers — all without leaving your Shopify store.

Once set up, customers can subscribe straight from the banner, and you can even reward them with an automatic coupon code to encourage sign-ups ✨

✅ Before You Begin

Before creating your Email Collection Bar, make sure:

  • The Hoppy Announcement Banner app is installed on your Shopify store
  • Your Shopify theme has the Announcement Banner app embed enabled

If you haven't enabled the app embed yet, go to:

Shopify Admin → Sales Channels → Online Store → Themes → Edit Theme → App Embeds

Then toggle Announcement Banner ON and click Save.

🛠️ Step 1 — Create a New Email Collection Bar

Open the Hoppy Announcement Banner app from your Shopify Admin.

Then:

→ Click Create New Announcement

→ Select Email Collection Bar

→ Choose a Preset that matches your store's style, or click Make your Own to start from scratch

Once selected, the setup page will open automatically.

⚙️ Step 2 — Configure the Content

After opening the setup page, you'll land inside the Content tab.

This section controls what your visitors see and how the email collection form behaves.

🏷️ Announcement Name

This field is for internal use only.

Customers will never see this name.

Use any recognizable name such as:

  • Newsletter Signup Bar
  • Welcome Offer Banner
  • Email List Builder

💡 Using proper internal naming makes it easier to identify setups later, especially if your store runs multiple campaigns.

📝 Title & Subheading

These are the main messages shown to visitors.

  • Title — The headline of your email collection bar. Use the rich text editor to format it however you like.
  • Subheading — A supporting message below the title (optional).

Example

  • Title: "Join our VIP list and get 15% OFF"
  • Subheading: "Be the first to know about new arrivals and exclusive deals"

💡 A clear and compelling title helps increase sign-up rates 📈

🔘 Button Text

This is the text shown on the subscribe button next to the email input field.

Examples

  • "Subscribe"
  • "Get My Discount"
  • "Join the Club"
  • "Claim Offer"

✉️ Email Placeholder

This is the hint text shown inside the email input field before the visitor starts typing.

Example

  • "Enter your email"
  • "Your email address"

🎉 Success Message

This message appears after a visitor successfully submits their email.

Example

  • "Welcome aboard\! Check your inbox for your discount code 🎉"
  • "Thanks for subscribing\!"

⚠️ If you are offering a coupon code, it's a good idea to mention it in the success message so customers know what to expect.

🏷️ Coupon Code

Want to reward new subscribers with a discount? You can add a coupon code that appears after they submit their email.

→ Enter your Coupon Code

→ Check Show copy button if you want customers to easily copy the code with one click

⚠️ Make sure the discount code already exists inside your Shopify Admin → Discounts so it works correctly at checkout.

❌ Close Icon

Enable this if you want visitors to be able to dismiss the email collection bar.

When enabled, you can also control how soon the bar reappears:

  • Appear again after — Set a number
  • Unit — Choose hours or days

This helps you avoid annoying repeat visitors while still giving new visitors a chance to subscribe.

📋 Copy Button

Enable this if you want visitors to be able to copy the Coupon Code.

This helps visitors to copy the Coupon Code in a click, rather than selecting the Coupon Code.

🎨 Step 3 — Customize the Design

Click Continue to design to move to the Design tab.

Here you can control how your email collection bar looks:

  • Position (top push, bottom, etc.)
  • Colors and background styles
  • Font sizes and button styling
  • Border radius and spacing
  • Animations and sticky behavior

💡 For a complete breakdown of every design option, check out our Design & Styling documentation.

📍 Step 4 — Set Up Placement & Targeting

Open the Placement tab to control where and when your email collection bar appears.

📐 Display Position

This setting controls the physical location of the bar on the page.

  • Top Push — Pushes the rest of the page content downward. The bar sits in the normal document flow.
  • Top Push (Sticky) — Stays fixed at the top of the viewport while the customer scrolls. The page content is still pushed down.
  • Top Overlap — Floats over the top of the page without pushing content down.
  • Top Overlap (Sticky) — Floats at the top and remains visible while scrolling.
  • Bottom Overlap (Sticky) — Appears at the bottom of the viewport and stays there while scrolling.
  • Manual — You control exactly where the bar appears using a code snippet or app block.

---

🌐 Page Targeting

Choose which pages the email collection bar should appear on:

  • All pages
  • Homepage only
  • All product pages
  • All collection pages
  • Specific products
  • Specific collections
  • Custom pages

🌍 Geolocation Targeting

By default, the bar appears to all visitors worldwide.

If you want to target specific countries or regions:

→ Disable Allow all locations

→ Select the countries where you want the bar to appear

👥 Customer Targeting

Control who sees the email collection bar based on customer behavior:

  • All visitors
  • Logged-in customers only
  • Logged-out visitors only
  • Customers with specific tags
  • Customers based on lifetime spend

💡 For example, you can show the bar only to new visitors who haven't logged in yet, which is great for list building.

📅 Scheduling (Optional)

Set a Start Date and End Date if you want the email collection bar to run during a specific campaign period.

If no dates are set, the bar will appear immediately once published and stay active until you unpublish it.

🔗 Step 5 — Enable Shopify Customer Sync (Optional)

If you want collected emails to be automatically added to your Shopify Customers list:

→ Go to the Integrations section inside the Hoppy Announcement Banner app

→ Find Shopify customer list integration

→ Enable it and configure:

  • Email Subscription — Choose whether subscribers are marked as Subscribed or Not Subscribed for email marketing

→ Click Save

Once enabled, every email submitted through your collection bar will be synced as a customer profile in Shopify.

You can also click Sync previous emails to backfill any emails collected before enabling this integration.

💾 Step 6 — Save & Publish

Once your setup is complete:

  1. Click Save to store your configuration
  2. Click Publish to make the email collection bar live on your storefront

⚠️ Saving alone does not make the bar visible to customers. You must publish it.

🎉 Final Result

Once configured successfully:

✅ Visitors see an eye-catching email collection bar on your storefront

✅ Emails are captured directly from the banner

✅ Subscribers see a success message (and optionally a coupon code)

✅ Emails sync automatically to Shopify Customers (if integration is enabled)

✅ Your email list grows while you focus on running your store 🚀

Using the Email Collection Bar effectively can help you build a loyal audience, boost repeat purchases, and increase customer lifetime value ✨
