📅 Types of Bookings (Regular, Multiday & Bundle) — Explained
Hoppy Appointments supports three booking types, each built for a different kind of appointment or rental business. The type you choose controls:
- What the customer sees on the booking calendar
- Which scheduling settings are available to you
- How pricing and quantity are calculated
- How many booking records are created after checkout
This guide explains how Regular, Multiday, and Bundle bookings work so you can pick the right type for each service.
⚠️ Before You Begin
Before choosing a booking type, make sure:
- The Hoppy Appointments app is installed on your Shopify store
- You have a Shopify product ready for the service
- You know roughly how customers should select dates and times
💡 The booking type is selected when a service is first created and cannot be changed later. If you need a different type, create a new service and archive the old one.
🧭 How Booking Type Is Selected
You choose the booking type when you create a new service.
- Open the Hoppy Appointments app
- Go to Services → Create Service
- Pick one of the three types:
- Regular Booking
- Multiday Booking
- Bundle Bookings
- Continue setting up the service
All three active types use the checkout flow, so they can be connected to a Shopify product and charged at booking. You can also offer any type for free by turning off payment in the Payment tab.
⚠️ Once a service is saved, its booking type is locked. Plan your choice before you start configuring availability.
🗓️ Regular Booking
Regular bookings are single appointments on a specific date and time. This is the default type and works for most appointment-based businesses.
Best for
- One-on-one consultations
- Salon or spa appointments
- Fitness classes
- Medical or therapy sessions
- Any service with a clear start and end time
Customer experience
- The customer selects a date from the calendar
- They pick a time slot
- If the service has multiple durations, they choose how long the appointment lasts
- They fill out the booking form and complete checkout
Key settings
Regular bookings unlock the full set of time-slot settings:
- Meeting duration — how long each appointment lasts
- Booking interval — how often time slots appear on the calendar
- Buffer time — padding added automatically between consecutive bookings
- Break times — blocked-out periods during the day
- Show availability by time of day — groups slots into Morning, Afternoon, and Evening
- Booking limit per day — maximum bookings accepted for this service in one day
- Booking limit per timeslot — how many customers can book the same slot
- Look ahead — how far into the future customers can book
- Minimum scheduling notice — how soon before a slot customers can book
What happens after booking
A single booking record is created. The confirmation email shows one date, one time, and the duration.
🏨 Multiday Booking
Multiday bookings let customers reserve a range of dates, like a hotel stay or an equipment rental. Instead of picking a time slot, they pick a start date and an end date.
Best for
- Hotel or vacation rental stays
- Equipment rentals
- Multi-day retreats or workshops
- Any service measured in days or nights
Customer experience
- The customer selects a start date and an end date from the calendar
- They see a summary showing the total number of days or nights
- They complete checkout
- No time slot is chosen — the booking uses your configured available hours for each day
Key settings
- Day or Night booking — controls how the date range is counted:
- Day booking: 10th to 11th counts as 2 days
- Night booking: 10th to 11th counts as 1 night
- Fixed quantity — when enabled, the product price is not multiplied by the number of days/nights
- Minimum / maximum bookable days — the shortest and longest stays customers can book
- Available hours — the default start and end time that define each day of the stay
- Look ahead — how far in advance customers can start a booking
- Minimum scheduling notice — how soon before the first day customers can book
The following settings are not available for multiday bookings:
- Meeting duration
- Booking interval
- Buffer time
- Break times
- Booking limit per timeslot
- Show availability by time of day
Pricing
By default, the product price is multiplied by the number of days or nights. For example, if your product costs $100 per night and the customer books 3 nights, the total is $300.
Enable Fixed quantity if you want to charge a flat price regardless of length — for example, a retreat package that costs the same whether someone stays 2 or 4 nights.
What happens after booking
A single booking record is created covering the full date range. The confirmation email shows the start date, end date, and total days or nights.
📦 Bundle Booking
Bundle bookings let customers buy a package of multiple appointment slots in one checkout. They can pick different dates and times for each session.
Best for
- Class packs (e.g., 10 yoga classes)
- Coaching packages (e.g., 5 sessions)
- Membership credits
- Any service sold as a prepaid package of sessions
Customer experience
- The customer expands available dates in the calendar
- They select time slots one by one
- They see a running list of selected dates
- Once the required number of slots is selected, they continue to checkout
Key settings
- Slot selection type:
- Fixed — the customer must select exactly the configured number of slots
- Range — the customer can select between a minimum and maximum number of slots
- Fixed quantity — when enabled, the product price is not multiplied by the number of slots
- Meeting duration — how long each session lasts
- Booking interval — how often slots appear
- Break times — blocked periods during the day
- Buffer time — padding between consecutive bookings
- Booking limit per timeslot — how many bookings you accept per slot
- Minimum scheduling notice — how soon before a slot customers can book
The following settings are not available for bundle bookings:
- Look ahead
- Booking limit per day
- Waitlist
- Show availability by time of day
Pricing
By default, the product price is multiplied by the number of selected slots. For example, if your product costs $50 per session and the customer selects 5 sessions, the total is $250.
Enable Fixed quantity if you want to sell the bundle at a flat price — for example, a 10-class pack for $400 regardless of how many individual sessions are included.
What happens after booking
The backend creates one booking record per selected slot. All records share the same bundle ID so they stay grouped together. The confirmation email lists every selected date and time.

* Multiday supports waitlist requests, but the "show waitlist when a slot is fully booked" option is hidden because multiday bookings do not use time slots.
⚙️ Settings That Work Across All Types
Some features behave the same way no matter which booking type you use:
- Duration-variant mapping — map different durations or quantities to different Shopify variants and prices
- Team assignments — assign teammates to services and let customers choose or be assigned automatically
- Meeting locations — offer Zoom, Google Meet, in-person, or custom locations
- Design & styling — customize the booking widget, success page, rescheduling page, and cancel page
- Payment options — collect full payment, partial payment, or no payment depending on your service setup
- Email notifications — send confirmation, reminder, reschedule, and cancellation emails
- Translations — translate the widget and emails into multiple languages
These topics are covered in separate help docs.
⚠️ Important Notes & Limitations
- Booking type cannot be changed after creation. Choose carefully when setting up the service.
- Price is corrected on the backend. The final price is always verified against your Shopify product price, so customers cannot manipulate the total.
- Variant mappings must be unique across services. A single Shopify variant cannot be mapped to two different durations in different services.
- Multiday bookings use fixed daily hours. Customers do not pick individual times for each day; the booking uses your configured available hours.
- Bundle bookings have no look-ahead limit. Customers can book any available slot shown in the calendar.
- Bundle bookings do not support waitlist. If waitlist is important, use Regular or Multiday instead.
- Bundle analytics count once per package. Conversion events fire once for the whole bundle, not once per slot.
💡 Examples & Use Cases
Regular: Private Photography Session
A photographer offers 60- and 90-minute portrait sessions. Customers pick a date and time, choose a duration, and pay at checkout. The calendar prevents double-booking and respects buffer time between sessions.
Multiday: Cabin Rental
A cabin rental business charges per night. Customers select check-in and check-out dates. The system counts the nights, multiplies the nightly rate, and creates one booking covering the full stay.
Bundle: 10-Class Yoga Pack
A yoga studio sells a 10-class package. Customers select any 10 available class slots across different dates. The system creates one booking record per class and groups them under one bundle ID.
