π Upsell & Cross Sell β Translation
Hoppy Upsell & Cross Sell allows merchants to create translations for the customer-facing texts shown inside the Upsell Widget.
This helps stores provide a more localized shopping experience for customers browsing the storefront in different languages β¨
Translations can be added for:
- π·οΈ Upsell Title
- π Upsell Button Text (Before adding to cart)
- β Upsell Button Text (After adding to cart)
π Before Adding Translations
Before translations can be added inside Hoppy Upsell & Cross Sell, the language must already exist inside your Shopify store settings.
The app automatically detects the languages configured in:
β Shopify Admin β Settings β Languages
Only the languages configured there will become available inside the app for translation.
β οΈ Important:
If a language is not added in Shopify Settings first, it will not appear in the Translation section inside the app.
There's also a quick shortcut available inside the app:
β Click βAdd languages in Shopify Settings to translateβ β it takes you directly to the Languages page in your Shopify Admin.
π‘ To add a language to your Shopify store, you can follow Shopify's official guide:
β Add a language to your online store
π€ How the Default Language Works
Your store's primary (default) language does not need a translation.
The Upsell Widget automatically uses the base texts you configure inside the Content tab:
- Upsell Title
- Button Text (Before adding to cart)
- Button Text (After adding to cart)
Whenever a customer browses your storefront in the default language β or in any language that does not have a translation added β the widget simply falls back to these base texts.
That means:
β
The default language is always covered
β
Translations are only needed for additional storefront languages
β
Customers never see an empty or broken widget β¨
π οΈ Step 1 β Open Hoppy Upsell & Cross Sell
Open the Hoppy Upsell & Cross Sell app from your Shopify Admin.
Then:
β Open an existing Upsell setup
β Or create a new Upsell setup
π― Step 2 β Navigate to the Translation Section
Once the setup is opened:
β Make sure you are inside the Content tab
β Scroll toward the bottom of the page
β Locate the Translations section
This section allows you to add translated versions of the customer-facing texts shown inside the Upsell Widget.
β Step 3 β Add a Translation
Inside the Translations section:
β Click Add translation
Once clicked, a Translation modal will appear.
Inside this modal, you can:
- Select the language
- Add the translated Upsell Title
- Add the translated button texts shown to customers
β οΈ Important:
If every available language already has a translation, the Add translation button becomes disabled. This is normal β it simply means all languages are already covered β¨
βοΈ Step 4 β Configure Translation Content
Inside the Translation modal, enter the translated text you want customers to see on the storefront.
The following fields can be translated:
- π·οΈ Upsell Title β the heading shown above the upsell products (supports rich text formatting)
- π Upsell Button Text (Before adding to cart) β the button label customers see before adding the product, such as βAdd to Cartβ
- β Upsell Button Text (After adding to cart) β the button label shown after the product is added, such as βAdd Anotherβ
β οΈ Important:
All translation fields are required. If any field is left empty, the translation cannot be confirmed and an error message will appear.
π‘ Example Translation
If your base setup contains the button text:
βAdd to Cartβ
then a French translation could look like:
βAjouter au panierβ
Customers browsing your storefront in French will now see the French button text, while everyone else continues to see your base text β¨
βοΈ Editing or Deleting a Translation
Once a translation is added, it appears as a list inside the Translations section.
β Click the β― (menu) icon next to a translation
From here, you can:
- Edit translation β update the translated texts for that language
- Delete β remove the translation completely
β οΈ Important:
Deleting a translation cannot be undone. Once deleted, customers browsing in that language will see the base texts from the Content tab again.
β Step 5 β Save & Publish
Once the translations are added:
β Click Confirm translation inside the modal
β Save the setup using the Save bar
β Publish the Upsell
After publishing, customers browsing your storefront in the selected language will automatically see the translated Upsell Widget texts.
The widget detects the language the customer is currently browsing in and shows the matching translation β no extra setup needed π
π Final Result
Once configured successfully:
β
Customers see translated Upsell titles and button texts
β
The widget automatically matches the customer's browsing language
β
Languages without a translation fall back to the default texts
β
Shopping experience feels more localized and personalized β¨
Using translations properly can significantly improve the shopping experience for international storefront visitors π
π Troubleshooting
A language is missing from the translation dropdown
β Make sure the language is added in Shopify Admin β Settings β Languages first. Only languages configured there become available inside the app.
The Add translation button is disabled
β This happens when every available language already has a translation. Edit an existing translation instead, or add more languages in Shopify Settings.
Customers still see the default texts
β Check that a translation exists for the exact language the customer is browsing in. If no translation matches, the widget always falls back to the base texts from the Content tab.
β Also make sure the setup was Saved and Published after adding the translation.
