📋 Cookie Consent Logs & Data Requests

The Logs & Data Requests section helps merchants track visitor consent activity and manage privacy-related requests submitted through the storefront.

It is designed to provide greater visibility into how visitors interact with your Cookie Banner while also helping merchants maintain records for privacy and compliance purposes.

The feature includes three key areas:

  • Policy Acceptances
  • Data Requests
  • Reset Given Consent

Together, these tools help organize consent records, monitor privacy requests, and manage consent resets when compliance requirements change.

⚠️ Before You Begin

To access Logs & Data Requests:

→ Open GDPR EU Cookie Banner

→ Navigate to Consent Logs

You will find three available sections:

  • Policy Acceptances
  • Data Requests
  • Reset Given Consent

Each section can be opened individually for review and management.

✅ Policy Acceptances

The Policy Acceptances section records visitor consent decisions submitted through your Cookie Banner.

Whenever a visitor accepts or updates their cookie preferences, the app stores a record of that action for future reference.

Each consent record contains information such as:

  • Visitor Email
  • Accepted Page
  • Given Consent Categories
  • IP Address (masked)
  • Created Date & Time

If a visitor changes their preferences later, the existing consent record is updated automatically.

The system can track consent decisions for:

  • Preferences
  • Analytics
  • Marketing
  • Sale of Data
  • Functional

These categories help merchants understand which types of consent visitors have granted.

🔍 Search & Filtering

Use the search field to quickly find consent records by:

  • Email Address
  • Accepted Page
  • IP Address

You can also filter records by consent category to focus on specific consent types.

📄 Pagination

Consent records are displayed in pages for easier management.

Use the available navigation controls to browse through older entries when reviewing consent history.

📨 Data Requests

The Data Requests section records privacy-related requests submitted by visitors through the privacy policy pages generated by the app.

These requests help visitors exercise their privacy rights directly from the storefront.

📋 Available Request Types

Visitors can submit four different types of requests.

Access Account Information

Allows visitors to request access to their available account information.

This displays a read-only view of their profile information after verification.

Edit Account Information

Allows visitors to submit updates or corrections to their account information.

The request is recorded for merchant review.

Delete Account Information

Allows visitors to submit a request asking for their information to be deleted.

The request is logged for compliance tracking purposes.

Show All Requests

Allows visitors to download a history of requests they have previously submitted.

This provides transparency into their request activity.

🔒 Verification Process

Before a request is completed:

  • The visitor submits their email address
  • A verification email is sent
  • A secure verification link is generated
  • The visitor confirms the request through the verification link

This process helps prevent unauthorized requests.

📋 Request Records

Each request entry contains:

  • Email Address
  • Request Type
  • IP Address (masked)
  • Submission Date & Time

These records provide a clear history of privacy-related activity.

🔍 Search & Filtering

Use the search field to locate requests by:

  • Email Address
  • IP Address

You can also filter requests by request type to quickly review specific categories.

📄 Pagination

Request records are displayed in paginated tables to make large request histories easier to navigate.

⚙️ Privacy Request Settings

Several settings influence how Data Requests operate.

✉️ Custom Sender Email

By default, verification emails are sent using the app's default sender.

Merchants can configure a custom sender email for branding purposes.

Once verified, all privacy request emails will be sent from the configured address.

This setting controls which privacy policy page visitors see when selecting:

  • Privacy Policy
  • Learn More

Options include:

  • Auto Generate
  • Shopify Policy
  • GDPR Policy
  • CCPA Policy
  • PIPEDA Policy
  • LGPD Policy
  • APPI Policy

Regardless of the selected policy page, visitors can still submit privacy requests.

🌎 Data Sales Opt-Out (CCPA)

For supported regions, merchants can display:

  • Do Not Sell My Personal Information
  • Do Not Share My Personal Information

options directly within the Cookie Banner and Preferences Popup.

These options are only shown in supported regions where required.

The Reset Given Consent tool allows merchants to reset previously collected consent information.

This is useful when:

  • Cookie categories change
  • Tracking behavior changes
  • Compliance requirements change
  • Visitors need to reconfirm consent

Removes all stored consent records.

Returning visitors will be treated as new visitors and will see the Cookie Banner again.

⚠️ This action affects all stored consent records.

Resets Analytics consent preferences for visitors without removing the entire consent record.

Resets Marketing consent preferences while preserving the rest of the consent information.

Resets Functional consent preferences while keeping other consent categories unchanged.

🔒 Security & Privacy Protection

The Logs & Data Requests system includes several security measures.

Verification Tokens

Privacy request verification links use secure tokens that:

  • Are randomly generated
  • Expire automatically
  • Can only be used once

This helps protect visitor information and prevent misuse.

Masked IP Addresses

IP addresses displayed to merchants are masked to improve visitor privacy while still providing useful auditing information.

Verified Request Workflow

Every privacy request must pass through email verification before it is recorded as completed.

This ensures only authorized visitors can submit requests related to their information.

⚠️ Important Notes

Data Requests Are Logged

The system records privacy requests and consent activity for compliance tracking purposes.

Merchants should still review and process requests according to their own privacy policies and legal obligations.

If a visitor changes their cookie preferences, the original consent record is updated automatically rather than creating duplicate records.

Reset Actions Affect Visitor Experience

After consent is reset, affected visitors may be asked to provide consent again when returning to the storefront.

Privacy Request Verification Is Required

Visitors must verify their email address before requests can be completed.

Unverified requests are not processed.

🚀 Final Result

Once configured and used correctly:

✅ Visitor consent decisions are stored and searchable

✅ Privacy-related requests are collected and organized

✅ Consent activity can be reviewed for compliance purposes

✅ Visitors can exercise privacy rights directly from the storefront

✅ Consent preferences can be reset when requirements change

✅ Merchants maintain better visibility into consent and privacy activity

The Logs & Data Requests tools help merchants manage consent records and privacy requests in a more organized, transparent, and compliance-friendly way.
