📋 Currency Converter Rules

Currency Converter Rules allow you to create currency-specific formatting and display behavior without affecting your global Currency Converter settings.

Instead of applying the same formatting to every currency, you can create individual rules that control how specific currencies appear on your storefront. This gives you greater flexibility when supporting international shoppers and regional pricing preferences.

⚠️ Before You Begin

To access Currency Converter Rules:

→ Open Hoppy Currency Converter

→ Complete onboarding

→ Open Currency Rules from the left navigation menu

💡 Currency Rules are completely optional. If no rules are created, all currencies will follow your global Currency Converter settings.

📊 Rules Dashboard Overview

The Currency Rules dashboard provides a quick overview of all configured currency rules.

From here, you can:

  • Create new rules
  • Edit existing rules
  • Activate or deactivate rules
  • Delete rules
  • Perform bulk actions

📈 Statistics Cards

At the top of the page, you'll find summary statistics that help you quickly understand your rule configuration.

Total Currencies

Displays the total number of currency rules that currently exist.

Total Active Currencies

Displays the number of rules currently active on your storefront.

Only active rules are applied to customers.

Total Updated Rules

Displays the number of currencies using customized formatting.

This helps identify how many currencies have been modified beyond the default settings.

📋 Rules Table

The Rules Table displays all created currency rules.

For each rule, you can view:

  • Currency
  • Status
  • Symbol Position
  • Format Without Currency Code
  • Format With Currency Code
  • Available Actions

This makes it easy to review and manage all configured rules from one location.

⚙️ Bulk Actions

Multiple rules can be selected simultaneously.

Available bulk actions include:

Activate

Enables all selected rules.

Deactivate

Temporarily disables all selected rules.

Delete

Permanently removes all selected rules.

⚠️ Deleted rules cannot be recovered.

If you're unsure, consider deactivating a rule instead of deleting it.

➕ Create a New Currency Rule

Click:

+ Add Currency Rule

to create a new currency-specific rule.

The same interface is used when creating or editing a rule.

💱 Currency Selection

Choose which currency the rule should apply to.

Use the search field to find supported currencies quickly.

Important

Only one rule can exist per currency.

If a rule already exists for a currency, you'll need to edit the existing rule instead of creating another one.

👁️ Visibility Settings

Visibility controls whether the rule is active.

Active

The rule is applied whenever that currency is selected by a customer.

Inactive

The rule remains saved but is ignored on the storefront.

Inactive rules are useful when preparing changes ahead of time without affecting customers.

📍 Symbol Position

This setting allows you to override the global symbol position for a specific currency.

🌐 Default (Global Setting)

Uses the symbol position configured in your main Currency Converter settings.

⬅️ Prefix

Displays the symbol before the amount.

Example

$100

➡️ Suffix

Displays the symbol after the amount.

Example

100$

This can be useful for currencies that traditionally use suffix formatting.

📝 Currency Formats

Currency Formats provide complete control over how prices appear for a specific currency.

Both format types use:

{{amount}}

You can check the allowed Shopify Currency formats from here: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/international/pricing/currency-formatting

This placeholder is automatically replaced with the converted price.

⚠️ The placeholder must always be included.

Without it, prices cannot be displayed correctly.

💰 Format Without Currency

Controls how prices appear when currency codes are hidden.

Default Format

{{amount}}

Example Result

$100.00

You can customize the template while keeping the amount placeholder intact.

💱 Format With Currency

Controls how prices appear when currency codes are displayed.

Example Format

{{amount}} USD

Example Result

$100.00 USD

This helps provide additional clarity for international shoppers.

✏️ Rule Management

Existing rules can be modified at any time.

Edit Rule

Click:

Edit

to update:

  • Status
  • Symbol Position
  • Formatting Templates

The Currency field remains locked while editing to prevent accidental reassignment.

Delete Rule

Click:

Delete

to permanently remove a rule.

Once deleted, the affected currency immediately falls back to global Currency Converter settings.

⚠️ Important Notes

Only Active Rules Apply

Inactive rules remain stored but are not applied on the storefront.

Only active rules are synchronized and displayed to customers.

One Rule Per Currency

Each currency supports only a single rule.

To modify behavior for a currency, edit the existing rule rather than creating another one.

Currency Selection Cannot Be Changed

After a rule is created, the currency itself cannot be modified.

To create a rule for a different currency, create a new rule instead.

Formatting Templates Require {{amount}}

Both formatting fields must include:

{{amount}}

Without this placeholder, the actual converted price cannot be displayed.

Shopify Markets Compatibility

If Shopify Markets is handling currency conversion and formatting directly, some custom formatting rules may not appear on the storefront.

The rules remain saved and can still be used whenever manual conversion behavior is active.

💡 Common Use Cases

Custom Symbol Position

A merchant wants one currency to use suffix notation while all others continue using prefix notation.

Result:

  • USD → $100
  • JPY → 100¥

Localized Formatting

A merchant wants certain currencies to display cleaner pricing formats while keeping currency codes visible when necessary.

Result:

  • Local shoppers see simplified prices
  • International shoppers see additional currency clarity

Preparing Future Campaigns

A merchant creates a rule in advance but keeps it inactive until a campaign launches.

Result:

  • No storefront changes initially
  • Rule can be activated instantly when needed

🚀 Final Result

Once configured successfully:

✅ Each currency can have its own formatting behavior

✅ Symbol positions can be customized individually

✅ Price templates become fully configurable

✅ Rules can be activated or deactivated without deletion

✅ Multiple rules can be managed efficiently using bulk actions

✅ International pricing appears more localized and professional

Currency Rules provide merchants with greater control over how prices are presented across different currencies, helping create a more tailored shopping experience for global customers. 🌍
