🧪 How to Test Currency Conversion on Your Storefront

After setting up Hoppy Currency Converter, it's important to verify that everything is working correctly on your storefront.

Testing helps confirm that:

  • The currency selector is visible.
  • Manual currency switching works correctly.
  • Prices update across the storefront.
  • Auto currency detection behaves as expected.
  • Visitors from different countries see the correct currencies.

This guide walks through the recommended testing process from initial setup verification to real-world storefront testing.

✅ Before You Begin

Before testing, make sure the following setup requirements have already been completed:

  • Hoppy Currency Converter is installed.
  • App Status is enabled.
  • The App Embed is enabled.
  • At least one currency has been added.
  • Shopify Money Format has been configured correctly.

⚠️ If any of these requirements are missing, the Currency Converter may not appear on the storefront.

👀 Step 1 — Verify the In-App Preview

The fastest way to confirm your configuration is working is by reviewing the preview inside the app.

How to Check

➡️ Open Hoppy Currency Converter.

➡️ Navigate to Settings.

➡️ Review the Desktop and Mobile previews.

Expected Result

The currency selector should appear in the configured position.

If the selector is visible in the preview:

✅ Design settings are applied correctly.

✅ Placement settings are configured correctly.

If nothing appears:

➡️ Verify App Status is enabled.

➡️ Confirm that at least one currency has been selected.

🔌 Step 2 — Verify the App Embed Is Enabled

The Currency Converter cannot appear on the storefront unless the App Embed is enabled.

How to Check

➡️ Open Hoppy Currency Converter.

➡️ Locate the App Status section.

➡️ Click the Theme Editor link.

Then navigate to:

Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes → Customize → App Embeds

Locate: Currency Converter

Verify that the toggle is enabled.

➡️ Click Save.

Expected Result

The Currency Converter becomes available on the storefront.

💡 If the embed is already enabled, try disabling it, saving, then enabling it again and saving once more.

🛍️ Step 3 — Verify the Currency Selector on the Storefront

Once the App Embed is enabled, test the live storefront.

How to Check

➡️ Open your storefront.

➡️ Visit a page containing visible product prices.

Examples:

  • Product Pages
  • Collection Pages
  • Home Page
  • Cart Page

Expected Result

The currency selector should appear in the position configured within the app.

If it does not appear immediately:

➡️ Perform a hard refresh.

Windows

Ctrl + Shift + R

Mac

Cmd + Shift + R

This forces the browser to load the latest storefront assets.

💱 Step 4 — Test Manual Currency Switching

Manual currency switching is the quickest way to verify that price conversion is working correctly.

How to Test

➡️ Click the currency selector.

➡️ Choose a different currency.

➡️ Review storefront pricing.

Expected Result

You should see:

✅ Currency symbols update.

✅ Currency codes update.

✅ Product prices update.

✅ Collection prices update.

✅ Cart prices update.

💡 Test multiple currencies to ensure conversions are behaving consistently throughout the store.

🌍 Step 5 — Test Auto Currency Detection

If Auto Currency Switch is enabled, the app attempts to detect the visitor's location automatically.

There are several ways to test this functionality.

Option A — Use an Incognito Window

Open your storefront using a new Incognito or Private Browsing window.

This creates a fresh session without saved currency preferences.

Expected Result

The app should automatically detect the visitor location and apply the appropriate currency.

Option B — Use a VPN

A VPN allows you to simulate visitors from different countries.

Example

VPN Location → Germany → Detected Currency → EUR

If EUR exists in your selected currencies list, prices should automatically switch to Euros.

Option C — Use GeoPeeker

GeoPeeker can help preview how your storefront appears from different countries.

How to Test

➡️ Open GeoPeeker.

➡️ Enter your storefront URL.

➡️ Select a country.

➡️ Review the displayed currency.

Expected Result

The storefront should display the currency associated with the selected country.

💡 This is useful if you don't have access to a VPN.

🧹 Step 6 — Clear Session Data and Retest

The Currency Converter remembers manually selected currencies during the browsing session.

Because of this, auto-detection may not run again until the session is reset.

How to Reset

➡️ Open browser developer tools.

➡️ Navigate to the Application or Storage tab.

➡️ Locate Session Storage.

➡️ Clear the stored session data.

➡️ Refresh the storefront.

Alternative Method

Open a new Incognito or Private Browsing window.

This creates a completely fresh visitor session.

Expected Result

Auto currency detection should run again from the beginning.

⚠️ Important Notes

Selected Currencies Matter

Auto-detection only works for currencies that have been added to your Select Currencies list.

If the visitor's currency is unavailable, the app falls back to the store currency or configured default currency.

Manual Selection Overrides Auto Detection

After a visitor manually selects a currency, that selection takes priority for the remainder of the session.

To retest auto-detection:

➡️ Clear session storage.

➡️ Open a new Incognito window.

App Embed Must Remain Enabled

If the selector disappears from the storefront unexpectedly, verify that the App Embed is still enabled.

This is the most common cause of storefront visibility issues.

Shopify Markets Compatibility

If Shopify Markets is handling local currency conversion, the app automatically adjusts its behavior to avoid conflicts.

If pricing appears different than expected, review your Shopify Markets configuration as well.

Browser Cache Can Delay Changes

After updating settings:

➡️ Save changes.

➡️ Perform a hard refresh.

Regular page refreshes may continue loading cached storefront assets.

🎉 Final Result

✅ The currency selector appears correctly on the storefront.

✅ Manual currency switching updates prices throughout the store.

✅ Auto currency detection works for supported countries.

✅ The App Embed is configured correctly.

✅ Visitors from different locations receive the expected currency experience.

Once these checks have been completed successfully, your Currency Converter is ready for customers around the world. 🌍
