Heavy orders cost more to deliver — so why charge the same for a 200 g parcel and a 20 kg one? 📦

The Delivery Rates By Weight rule lets you set a delivery charge based on the total weight of the order. Light carts get a cheap rate; heavy carts pay their fair share.

📋 Before You Begin

• ✅ You’ve created a delivery zone — see How to Setup Delivery Rates and Zones?
• ✅ Your products have weights set in Shopify (rates can only be as accurate as your product weights)
• ✅ You’ve picked your Weight format in the General card on the Rates page

⚙️ Step 1 — Check Your Weight Format

→ Go to Rates → General card → Weight format.

Choose the unit your store works in:

• Grams (g)
• Kilograms (kg)
• Pounds (lb)
• Ounces (oz)

💡 Use the same unit you use for product weights in Shopify — that way your rule ranges line up with real order totals.

⚙️ Step 2 — Add a Weight Rule

→ Click Edit on your zone → under Delivery Rates By Weight, click Add Rate By Weight.

Fill in:

• Delivery Rate Name → appears on the checkout page along with the charges (e.g. Heavy Parcel Delivery)
• Delivery Rate Description → appears on the checkout page along with the name
• Delivery Rate → the amount to charge (set 0 for free delivery)
• Minimum Order Weight → the lowest total order weight this rate applies to
• Maximum Order Weight → the highest total order weight this rate applies to

⚠️ All fields are required — use a very high maximum if there’s no upper limit.

Example Setup

• Rate 1 → ₹40 for orders from 0 to 5
• Rate 2 → ₹120 for orders from 5 to 50

→ Click Add, then Add Zone / Update Zone, then Save in the save bar.

ℹ️ Good to Know

• ℹ️ The rule compares against the total weight of all items in the cart, not per product.
• ℹ️ Weight rules are checked after price rules and before product, time, day, and multi condition rules in the same zone.
• 💡 Overlapping ranges are fine — the first matching rule wins — but non-overlapping tiers are easier to reason about.
