πŸš€ How to Set Up Delivery, Pickup, and Shipping Options in Delivery Dates

Just installed Hoppy Delivery Dates and not sure where to start? You're in the right place πŸ™Œ

This guide walks you through the complete first-time setup β€” from enabling the app in your theme to creating your first location β€” so customers can start choosing Store Pickup, Local Delivery, or Standard Shipping (with dates and time slots) right from your cart page.

πŸ“‹ Before You Begin

Make sure you have:

  • βœ… The Hoppy Delivery Dates app installed on your Shopify store
  • βœ… Access to your Shopify admin and theme editor
  • βœ… A rough idea of which fulfillment methods you offer (pickup, local delivery, shipping)

πŸ’‘ You don't need to configure everything perfectly on day one. Get the basics live first β€” you can fine-tune time slots, prep times, and blackout dates later inside each location.

πŸ—ΊοΈ The Setup Guide on Your Home Dashboard

When you open the app, the Home dashboard shows a Setup Guide card with a progress bar that tracks your setup:

  • Activate app embed in Shopify
  • Activate Show on cart
  • Set up your first location
  • Set up delivery rates
  • Confirm your Delivery Dates widget is working properly

Each step expands with a short description and a button that takes you exactly where you need to go β€” for example Open theme settings, Open settings, Create location, or Set up rates. Completed steps get a green checkmark automatically βœ”οΈ

ℹ️ The steps below follow this same checklist, so you can either click through the Setup Guide or follow along manually.

🧩 Step 1 β€” Activate the App Embed in Shopify

The app embed is what loads the Delivery Dates widget on your storefront. Without it, nothing will appear on your cart page β€” even if everything else is configured.

Go to:

Shopify Admin β†’ Online Store β†’ Themes β†’ Edit Theme β†’ App embeds

Then:

  • Find β€œDelivery dates” in the list
  • Toggle it ON
  • Click Save

Back on the Home dashboard, expand the Activate app embed in Shopify step and click β€œI have done it” β€” the app will re-check your theme and mark the step complete.

⚠️ If the step doesn't turn green, make sure you clicked Save inside the theme editor. The toggle alone isn't applied until the theme is saved. You can also use the Activate button on the App Status card to jump straight into the theme editor.

πŸ›’ Step 2 β€” Turn On β€œShow on cart”

Next, tell the app to display the widget on your cart page:

β†’ Open the app and go to Settings

β†’ At the very top, flip the Show on cart toggle ON

β†’ Click Save in the save bar that appears

This is the master switch for the storefront widget β€” if it's off, the widget stays hidden even with the app embed active.

πŸ’‘ For a deeper look at how the widget appears (method tabs, date picker, time slots), see How to Show the Delivery Widget on the Cart?

πŸ“ Step 3 β€” Create Your First Location

Locations power the Store Pickup and Local Delivery tabs in the widget. Each location has its own address, time slots, prep time, and blackout dates.

β†’ In Settings, make sure you're on the Delivery & Pickup tab

β†’ Under Your Locations, click Create location

A new location is created with both fulfillment methods already switched on, and the location editor opens with these sections:

  • Location setup β†’ name, address, and whether the location is enabled
  • Fulfillment type β†’ choose between Local Delivery and Store Pickup (Takeaway) (you can offer one or both)
  • Time slots & limits β†’ the days and time slots customers can pick
  • Prep time & availability β†’ how much preparation time you need before orders
  • Block dates & times β†’ holidays or days you don't fulfill orders
  • Product-based overrides β†’ different rules for specific products

For a full walkthrough of every field inside the location editor, see Location: How to Create and Manage a Location?

β†’ Click Save when you're done

ℹ️ New locations come with sensible defaults (weekday-friendly morning slots), so you can go live quickly and adjust the details later.

πŸ“¦ Step 4 β€” Enable Standard Shipping (Optional)

Only ship orders the regular way? You can also offer Standard Shipping as a tab in the widget β€” with or without date selection.

β†’ In Settings, switch to the Standard Shipping tab in the left sidebar

β†’ Click Turn on

Once enabled, two optional settings appear:

  • Minimum order value for Standard Shipping (Optional) β†’ customers only see the shipping option when their cart reaches this amount
  • Enable slots (Optional) β†’ when checked, an extra configuration section appears below so customers can pick a shipping date and time slot, just like delivery and pickup

β†’ Click Save

ℹ️ If you leave Enable slots unchecked, the widget simply tells customers that standard shipping will be calculated at checkout β€” no date picker is shown.

πŸ’° Step 5 β€” Set Up Delivery Rates (Optional)

The last configuration step lives on the Rates page, where you create delivery zones and rate rules so customers see the right delivery cost.

β†’ Click Set up rates on the Setup Guide, or open Rates from the app navigation

Zones and rate rules have their own dedicated doc β€” see How to Setup Delivery Rates and Zones? for the full setup.

πŸ‘€ Step 6 β€” Confirm Everything Is Working

The final Setup Guide step asks you to check the widget on your storefront:

  1. Open your store's cart page in a new tab (add a product first if the cart is empty)
  2. Confirm the widget appears with the right method tabs
  3. Try picking a date and time slot to make sure it behaves as expected

Then back in the Setup Guide:

  • Click Everything is great if it all looks right πŸŽ‰
  • Click Contact Support if something looks off β€” we're happy to help with design tweaks too

ℹ️ Once every step is complete, the Setup Guide shows Done, and you can click Dismiss Guide to hide it from your dashboard.

πŸŽ‰ Final Result

Once your setup is complete:

βœ… The Delivery dates app embed is active in your theme βœ… The widget is visible on your cart page βœ… Customers can choose Store Pickup, Local Delivery, or Standard Shipping βœ… Each location has its own slots, prep time, and blackout dates βœ… Delivery rates are configured for accurate checkout costs

Your store is now ready to take orders with delivery dates πŸš€
