πŸš€ Location How to Set Product-Based Overrides

Some products play by different rules β€” a custom cake needs two days of prep, or fresh flowers can't be delivered on Mondays πŸŽ‚πŸŒΈ

Product Overrides let you apply special scheduling rules to specific products, identified by their Shopify product tags, without changing the location's general settings.

In this guide, you'll learn how to:

  • 🟒 Enable a product override
  • 🏷️ Target products using tags
  • βš™οΈ Configure each override type

πŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • You've created a location and configured its general slots, prep time, and blackout dates
  • The products you want to override have tags assigned in Shopify (e.g. Custom Cake, Fresh Flowers)

βš™οΈ Step 1 β€” Open the Product Override Page

β†’ Go to Settings β†’ Delivery & Pickup β†’ Click Edit on your location β†’ Open the Product-based overrides tab

The Product Overrides card explains what's possible: "Setup product specific preparation time, blackout dates, fulfillment days, cut off time and product limits."

β†’ Click Add product Override to open the Product Override Setup page.

ℹ️ Until you create one, the card shows: "You have not setup any product specific overrides."

🟒 Step 2 β€” Enable the Override

At the top of the Product Override Setup page, use the toggle next to Product Override Type to switch the override on.

The badge shows Enabled (green) or Disabled (red) β€” you can prepare an override and keep it disabled until you're ready.

πŸ”˜ Step 3 β€” Choose the Override Type

Use the dropdown to pick what this override changes:

  • Fulfillment days β†’ these products can only be delivered/picked up on certain days of the week
  • Preparation time β†’ these products need extra prep days before their slots appear
  • Blackout specific dates and time β†’ these products can't be ordered on specific dates/times
  • Day wise cut off time β†’ these products get their own order cut off time
  • Day wise product limit β†’ limits per day for these products

🏷️ Step 4 β€” Add Product Tags

In the Product Tags card:

β†’ Type one or more tags into the field β€” separate multiple tags with commas, e.g. Vintage, Summer β†’ Click Add

Tags appear as removable badges (click the βœ• to remove one). The override applies to products carrying these tags.

⚠️ Tags must match your Shopify product tags exactly β€” double-check spelling and capitalization in Shopify Admin β†’ Products.

ℹ️ Until tags are added, the card shows: "Tags are yet to be added."

βš™οΈ Step 5 β€” Configure the Selected Override Type

The settings below the tags change based on the type you picked:

πŸ—“οΈ Fulfillment Days

β†’ Under Select pickup/delivery days, tick the days of the week these products can be scheduled (Monday–Sunday, multi-select).

Example: a bakery item only available Friday–Sunday.

⏳ Preparation Time

β†’ Enter Preparation time for an order (in days).

ℹ️ As the helper text explains: "Eg: If 1 day. order slots after 1 day will be shown to customers" β€” with 1, customers only see slots from the day after tomorrow onward for these products.

🚫 Blackout Specific Dates and Time

Works just like location-level blackouts, but only for the tagged products:

β†’ Under How do you want to blackout? choose Date range or Date range with time slots β†’ Pick the dates on the calendar and click Add β†’ For time-based blackouts, adjust Start Time and End Time on each entry; remove entries with the βœ• button

Example: block a supplier's holiday week for imported products only.

For a full walkthrough of blackout options, see Location: How to Block Specific Dates and Times.

⏰ Day Wise Cut Off Time

β†’ Set the Cut off time β€” the latest time of day orders containing these products can be placed ("Cut off time for orders with overridden products").

πŸ”’ Day Wise Product Limit

ℹ️ Selecting this type currently shows no additional settings on the page β€” the daily limit behavior is applied to the tagged products without extra configuration UI.

πŸ’Ύ Final Step β€” Save

β†’ Click Save in the save bar at the top of the page. β†’ Use the back arrow to return to Settings when you're done.

πŸŽ‰ Final Result

Once saved:

βœ… Tagged products follow their own scheduling rules βœ… The rest of your catalog keeps using the location's standard settings βœ… You can disable the override anytime without deleting it βœ… Prep-heavy or restricted products never slip into slots they can't fulfill
